57 Firearms Dismantled In Honor of Audra Dominguez

On Saturday, April 15, 2023, Guns to Gardens Metro Denver dismantled 57 firearms in honor of Audra Dominguez.

Mass for Audra Dominguez was held at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church on Saturday, April 15, prior to the Guns to Gardens firearm safe surrender event.

Cindy and Gary Dominguez, Audra’s parents, dismantle a firearm using a chop saw.

Cindy and Gary Dominguez’s youngest daughter Audra would have turned 26 in February, had she not been shot at a children’s birthday party this past fall. The shooting involved a loaded and unsecured firearm that was brought out from the garage during the party.  A bullet was fired and hit Audra in the back of the head.

“Audra was our everything.” Cindy said.  “She was still living at home, a good kid, a straight A student, loved by all. She wasn’t a drinker or a smoker and never got in trouble with the law.”  Audra was a Colorado champion powerlifter.  She worked as a CNA in OR at Swedish Hospital while she continued her education.

Since Audra had indicated that she wanted to be an organ donor, she was kept on life support for several days while transplant recipients were arranged.  This added an extra layer of suffering to the Dominguez family, but in the end over 80 people benefitted from Audra’s generosity, even in death.

Cindy says that since this case has been ruled a homicide, a trial is pending.  As the perpetrator is going through the court system, each court appearance continues to remind her of the events surrounding her daughter’s death and revictimization of her family.

The Dominguez family lives close to Columbine High School where Audra, her sister and brother all graduated.  One way that the Dominguez family is choosing to take action is by volunteering at Guns to Gardens events.
